Even rural environments such as where I am living, increasingly ask people for at least Matric (Grade 12) certificates before they are considered for [decent] or [any] employment.
There’s various reasons why people struggle to find employment.
· Economy, etc; such as in South Africa.
· Those without Matric, are considered as those without the necessary self- discipline, self-regulation and emotional maturity; otherwise they would have at least completed their schooling.
· Those people are considered also, as easy targets.
· You will work for minimum wage. You might end up with several children (with different biological fathers) and with limited to no child support. You will live in a shack. End up moving regularly, where rent is constantly cheaper…and living circumstances even worse….(and "Love" doesn't pay rent, believe me).
· We live in a global world, with increasingly technical and digital demands. As you don’t have Matric, the company will doubt you have the ability to do or learn this or more complicated requirements in the future – as you did not even have the ability to learn and complete basic schooling.
· Companies are increasingly put under pressure to appoint even more educated people. Not only for financial reasons, but also for insurance reasons.
· Hence, you are considered a liability.
These are only some of the truths….
My heart breaks for those who never had the opportunity to complete schooling.
But – I have no sympathy for those who did, and were too stupid or lazy to take advantage of the opportunities they were offered. Or preferred to squander it on boys and early pregnancies or simply tried to cruise by during school years.
And even after all that - there was and still is, always distance schooling available. It’s never too late improve your life and career opportunities.
Life boils down to choice…. It’s yours, to make or break it! After all.. you are the only to be blamed for your own choices and success/ failures.
